Pearl Hunter

My first game jam with random folks

Play Pearl Hunter.

Pearl Hunter is a underwater collection game that was made for the NES Game Jam. I only handled the programming of this game and it had quite the rocky development. Unfortunately communication was too little and needed to be a bit more prevalent, however we were able to pull through.

We were a team of 3, myself being the programmer, another being the artist and game director, and the final being the musician and sound designer.

The game consists of the player navigating underwater to collect pearls from oysters all while dodging enemy fish and garbage. You must manage your oxygen levels by collecting bubbles rising from the water bed. Coins can also be picked up when they fall through the water same as garbage.

The game is not well balanced and greatly encourages cycling between 2 or 3 oysters. I raised the issue with the director many times but it was falling on deaf ears. Therefore I added a cheat code so the game wasn't impossible to test and left them in there because of how annoying the game can be.
